Rossington boss calls for big turnout for ‘biggest game ever’

Ben Hunter is calling on local people to turn out in force for the biggest game in Rossington Main’s history tomorrow night.

Rossington are aiming to reach the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final for the first ever time but they face an almighty challenge in NPL Division One East giants Worksop Town.

Hunter hopes the crowd will be the 12th man for Rossington at Oxford Street.

“We need all the support we can get to us over-the-line and I’m sure Worksop will bring at least a hundred to the game,” Hunter told Non League Yorkshire.

“We want it to feel like a home game rather than an away game with all their support.

“We have been well-supported all season but we need people to get their friends to come and hopefully help make it a night to remember.

“We’re calling on as many local people as possible to come out and see what we’re all about at Rossington and to hopefully cheer us on to a historic final.

“It is the first time the club has been in a semi-final of this cup so for that reason alone it is a massive game for the club in terms of its history.”

The odds are stacked against Rossington though as play-offs chasing Worksop are two leagues higher and Hunter knows it will take a Herculean effort.

“We’re all excited but no-one remembers a semi-finalist,” he said.

“It is a massive test against a really good Worksop team who have been flying recently.

“We know it is an uphill task but that said, we’re preparing to progress.

“I think it would be fair to say it would be a massive upset.

“If you look at the places between us and Worksop in the league tables they’re obviously two steps above.

“The good thing for us which we take confidence from is that we have had a really tough road to getting to the semi-final.

“We had to play Stocksbridge who are obviously in the same league as Worksop and we had a good 4-2 win against them.

“We then had to play Hallam who are the form team in our league.

“So we have come through two really tough ties, this one is probably the pinnacle but the cup wins give us momentum.”
