Maltby Main manager John Stancliffe

John Stancliffe has resigned from his position as manager of Maltby Main.

The shock news comes 24 hours after Maltby’s Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Final defeat to Worksop Town at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

Stancliffe was thrown into the breach as interim boss back in February after Louis Axcell was removed from his position.

After several weeks in temporary charge, the former goalkeeper was handed the job on a permanent basis so he could plan for next season.

However, he has decided to stand aside.

Maltby have also announced that their chairman Dave Watts is stepping down.

Mr Watts is not relinquished his position straightaway though and plans to carry on performing several voluntary when his successor is confirmed.

A statement said: “On the back of John’s choice today our Chairman Dave Watts has also decided to step down from this senior role at the club, but will work a short notice period to complete this season off, as that needs to be done in the best interests of the club’s  off field volunteers and also playing team.

“The season off the pitch did not end yesterday for us.

“If his notice period overlaps the new manager coming in he will settle him into the club and he will be made aware the chairman role will be soon vacant and a new person will step in to work alongside him.

“Once the new Chairman comes in, Dave will wish him all the best and step aside. He will not work under him as a vice chairman.

“Dave’s remaining roles at present remain unaffected (media, online team secretary, asst. Secretary to John Mills, some banking roles) – as the club will suffer more in the short term if he stops these, but this depends on the new Chairman’s requirements and what he wishes to have with him in his off field team. He may not wish to have the former role holder around.

“If any of these particular other roles become vacant, we will advertise them. They are all voluntary.

“The Chairman role is also available to be discussed with the committee should you wish to be considered.”
