Wakefield win first NCEL game but survive scare

New kids on the block Wakefield AFC survived a scare in their first ever NCEL fixture after struggling to overcome ten-man Glasshoughton Welfare who were reduced to nine at one stage.

Wakefield won 3-1 but they were behind for the majority of the game as Kiyani Clayton silenced the large home support in the fifth minute.

Even the early sending off of Glasshoughton star Matthew Cuncliffe, did not spark Wakefield into life.

The tide began to turn towards Wakefield when Sam Nelson was sin-binned. 

Three goals in eight minutes starting in the 72nd minute swung victory to Gabe Mozzini’s side.

Star Jake Morrison equalised before Ray Sibanda struck.

Morrison then wrapped things up from the penalty spot.

Swallownest manager Alex Nightingale

William Monteiro’s early second half goal handed Swallownest the perfect start in the narrow 1-0 win over Worsbrough Bridge.

Nostell Miners Welfare began in disappointing fashion as they were well-beaten in the 5-2 loss at Retford FC.

Spencer Gordon and Nick Lalousis struck for Nostell who were 3-0 down after 38 minutes.

Parkgate’s nightmare pre-season was summed up in the opening day 6-2 defeat at Staveley Miners Welfare.
