Aldrich goal earns Ossett first league win since opening day

NPL Division One East

Ossett United 1-0 Stocksbridge Park Steels

Ossett United striker Luke Aldrich

Luke Aldrich’s first half effort was the difference as Ossett United edged a tight affair with Stocksbridge Park Steels at Ingfield to record their first league win since the opening day.

Ossett perhaps shaded the contest but chances were at a premium.

Stocksbridge’s Tomas Poole rattled the crossbar with a long range free kick just before Ossett’s 23rd minute winner.

After linking up with George Thewlis and Aldrich, the lively Basile Zottos brilliantly broke down the right and he supplied the goal-scorer with the perfect pass from which he couldn’t miss from.

Aldrich’s night ended there literally as a hamstring pull forced him off.

Not that it affected the home side as it allowed Jas Colliver to throw on Ollie Fearon.

Brad Grayson was denied twice by superb last ditch defending from Stocksbridge at the beginning of the second half.

Although the offside flag did go up, Stocksbridge would hit the bar again and Ify Ofoegbu, making his Steels debut against the club he has just left, was denied by Edd Hall late-on.
