Farsley Celtic honoured former chairman John Palmer by winning on penalties against Chester FC to progress in the FA Trophy.

The club’s saviour’s passing at the age of 86 was announced on Monday evening and a minute’s silence was held prior to kick off.

The final score after 90 minutes was 2-2 and Farsley, who had led twice, won 5-4 on penalties.

Jimmy Spencer gave Farsley the lead close to half-time.

Chester equalised in the 68th minute before Farsley quickly regained their advantage thanks to Frank Mulhern.

Chester drew level again in the last few minutes to take the contest to a shootout.

Farsley have now gone further than they have before in the Trophy and they will host Marske United in the next round.

FC Halifax Town successfully navigated their way past Guiseley in a 1-0 win.

Festus Arthur scored the goal.
