Football Idol

Beckham when I was a kid.

Biggest influence on football career

Hallam captain Danny Patterson has had a big influence on Ross Duggan’s Non League career. Picture: Matthew Appleby

My first manager in adult football Jamie Scales what a man! And Daniel Patterson got me going in right direction. (Finders fee)

Career Highlight

My two seasons at AFC Mansfield, the most confident I’ve ever been playing football and scoring goals.

Most Memorable Game

Scoring in the last minute of extra time in an FA Vase tie for AFC Mansfield / scoring a hat trick at New York Stadium for my old Sunday side Joker FC.

Lowest moment in football

Ross Duggan (right) signing for Maltby

My second season at Maltby Main, didn’t feel like I was good enough and nearly hung my boots up.

Biggest regret in football

Not taking it more serious when I was younger and giving it 1000%

Funniest moment in football

Missing a penalty at Goole away and one of fans filmed it and it was like something off a John Smiths advert. Have it!

First semi-professional manager

Lee Needham and Tom Hague at Swallownest when we got promoted to NCEL Div 1. Both top blokes and have a lot of time for them.

Non League Debut

Yorkshire Amateur striker Ross Duggan during his Swallownest days

First and only game for Swallownest in NCEL Division 1 if I remember rightly. And we lost, can’t even remember who we played.

First Red Card in Non League

Ross Duggan was sent off during his Yorkshire Amateur debut

Funnily enough it was this season for Yorkshire Amateur. Everyone seems shocked when I tell them that was my first ever red card, not sure why!

First and Best Non League Goal

On my debut for Maltby Main lobbed keeper from corner of box. My best goal I would say at AFC Mansfield against Bridlington. Hit it from about 35 yards and smashed bar and in. No better feeling.

What do you want to achieve in football in the future?

To play for at the highest I can for as long as possible and hopefully win some trophies along the way.

Favourite Non League Ground

Swall Siro where it all began.
